Frequently Asked Questions
Discover insights and guidance on LSAT prep through our FAQ page, where we address common questions regarding tutoring benefits, scheduling flexibility, tutor qualifications, and personalized study approaches, empowering you to make informed decisions to excel in your LSAT prep.
What qualifications should I look for in an LSAT tutor?
When seeking an LSAT tutor, look for someone with a strong understanding of the LSAT exam structure and content, preferably with a high LSAT score themselves. Additionally, seek tutors with a proven track record of success in helping students improve their scores, effective teaching methods tailored to your learning style, and preferably experience in tutoring for standardized tests or a background in law. Private tutoring is as much a relationship between the tutor and student as it is an experience to gain knowledge or skills, which is why it's also important to choose a tutor that is also the best fit for your learning style and personality.
How does private LSAT tutoring differ from self-study prep courses?
Private LSAT tutoring offers personalized attention and tailored study plans to address individual strengths and weaknesses, providing targeted strategies to maximize score improvement. In contrast, self-study prep courses typically provide standardized study materials and strategies for a broader audience, lacking the personalized guidance and feedback available through one-on-one tutoring sessions. For learners that need a more personalized approach to their learning needs and help being kept accountable in their studying, private LSAT tutoring can be a great fit.
What teaching strategies do you use?
I view LSAT tutoring as a process of releasing responsibility to the student. Many times, I will follow an "I do, we do, you do" structure where I first work through a sample problem, explaining the specific technique or strategy, then we do a problem together to solidify the understanding, and finally the student would have an opportunity to work through a problem independently. Sometimes we'll do multiple problems at each stage depending on each learner's needs. I also see the process of studying for the LSAT as akin to working out a muscle, or practicing a sport; with time and practice, skills are developed. We'll spend time learning new skills and approaches, but also give the necessary time to practice and review as well.
What LSAT materials or resources do you use?
I primarily use official test questions from past LSAT prep tests because they offer the most accurate representation of what you'll encounter on exam day. I normally will pull a selection of test questions that align with a specific approach to help teach that approach. During my LSAT self-studying journey, I found resources like 7Sage, Blueprint, PowerScore, and others incredibly valuable. The strategies I teach are a blend of the best techniques I've learned from these resources.
Can you provide personalized study plans in addition to tutoring?
Absolutely! Having self-studied for the LSAT, I understand the importance of creating and sticking to a study plan. Beyond tutoring sessions, I can provide guidance on effective studying approaches. I take a comprehensive approach that begins with an assessment of your current LSAT readiness, including your baseline understanding of the exam content and your target score goals. From there, I work closely with you to identify areas of strength and weakness, allowing us to focus our efforts where they're needed most. To ensure continuous progress, I provide homework recommendations after each session, reinforcing concepts covered. In addition to consulting on study planning outside of tutoring sessions, I am also available to discuss strategies for navigating the law school application process. I've gone through this process recently and am currently in law school, which can provide some insight into your own questions and uncertainties.

My goal is not only to help you improve your LSAT score but also to empower you with the skills and confidence needed to succeed in law school and beyond. By offering personalized study plans, consultations on law school applications, and ongoing support throughout the process, I'm dedicated to helping you achieve your academic and professional aspirations.
Is it okay if I only need to focus on one section of the LSAT?
Whether you need help with just one section or the entire exam, I'm here to tailor our sessions to meet your specific needs. Whether it's Logic Games, Logical Reasoning, or Reading Comprehension, we can focus exclusively on the section you want to improve on. Just let me know your preferences, and we'll work together to help you achieve your goals.
Logistics
How often should I schedule LSAT prep sessions and what is the typical duration of each session?
The frequency and duration of LSAT prep sessions depend on individual learning styles and schedules. However, a common recommendation is to schedule sessions at least once or twice a week, with each session typically lasting 2 hours. This schedule allows for consistent progress while providing enough time between sessions for independent practice and review. Adjustments may be made based on your specific goals, timeline, and availability.
What platform do you use for online tutoring?
I primarily use Google Meet for our online tutoring sessions. It provides a reliable video chat platform that allows us to interact seamlessly. Additionally, I utilize Google Jamboard as a digital whiteboard during our sessions. It's a fantastic tool because not only does it offer real-time collaboration, but it also allows me to share resources with you. Plus, you'll have access to the Jamboard after our lessons, making it a convenient place to review homework problems or any concepts we've covered. It's a versatile setup that ensures an effective and interactive learning experience for both of us. Access to these resources will be shared with your email prior to our time together.
What is your cancellation or rescheduling policy?
If you need to cancel or reschedule our lesson, just give me a heads-up at least 24 hours beforehand. That way, I can shuffle things around without any issues. It's better to let me know in advance because this allows me to manage my schedule effectively and accommodate other students who may be waiting to schedule lessons with me.
How does payment work?
I will send an invoice via email through QuickBooks for our sessions. You can pay using credit, debit, or directly from your bank account. I'm flexible with payments, so if there's a different method that works better for you, just let me know, and we can work something out.
Will I have to purchase anything in addition to the tutoring rate?
The tutoring rate covers our sessions and any additional support you need during our time together. You will need access to practice tests because I can not supply you with them. These are available through various services, such as LSAC LawHub ($115/year). It's a useful tool for homework assignments and independent study between our sessions because it gives you access to practice questions and full-length practice tests, which can be valuable for your LSAT prep journey. Apart from that, there are no additional costs beyond our agreed-upon tutoring rate.
